ITIL V3 Intermediate Training Update – October 2008
APMG Release
This month the APMG has released some of the ITIL V3 Intermediate Training Syllabi, encompassing the Capability and Lifecycle courses. The remainder of the syllabi and exams will be available from January 2009. The Capability courses are equivalent to the current ITIL V2 Clustered Practitioners - they look at the practical capabilities required for operating a particular ‘area’ of the lifecycle (for example, ‘Operational Support & Analysis’). Lifecycle courses focus more on management of a particular Lifecycle phase (for example, Service Operations or Design).
ALC are already providing ITIL V3 courses (Foundation, Foundation V3 Bridging and Manager’s V3 Bridging) but much like the roll-out of a new version of software, we have employed the strategy of waiting for the market response and ‘real life road test’ of these new courses.
New Courses – Launch Dates
In Q1 2009 (late February or March) we will launch the Operational Support & Analysis (OSA) and Release, Control & Validation (RCV) Capability courses, quickly followed by the other Capability Courses (Service Offerings & Agreements -SOA- and Planning, Protection & Optimization -PPO-) effectively replacing the V2 Practitioner courses.
In continuing to provide ‘value-add’ to our clients, the new Capability Courses will have a practical approach to the new and extended ITIL V3 theory, providing experienced facilitators and workshops on how to implement the V3 processes (or migrate from V2). Due to the advanced nature of these courses (compared to Foundation level) they will be delivered in a 3-day intensive format with pre- and post-course exercises to prepare the candidates for the V3 Capability Exam.
We expect the ITIL V3 Lifecycle and Managing across the Lifecycle courses (the latter required to obtain the ITIL V3 Expert qualification) to be available in Q2. Please note that existing V2 Practitioner qualification may count towards the ITIL V3 Expert qualification, but that V2 Foundations may need to be ‘upgraded’.
